Alyssa's Proportion Post

Ratio: A RATIO is a statement of how two numbers compare. It is a comparison of the size of one number to the size of another number.
Rate: A RATE is a ratio that expresses how long it takes to do something, such as traveling a certain distance

ProPorTion: A PROPORTION is an equation with a ratio on each side. It is a statement that two ratios are equal.

Proportion Statement:

5 hours to travel 360 miles is about _____mph

                         divided by 1
Hours        5                           1
______   ____________ = _____________
Miles        360                        1
                        divided by 1

As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

    divided by 4
  25                 100
______   =   ________
  50                12.5
    divided by 4

It is fair, because the hobo could have got more criminal records than that, and the rich man probably didnt have that much criminal records, and so its based on how much crimes was made.

Kim's Proportion Post

Task 1

Ratio

  • Comparative value of two or more amounts.
  • May be written as 1:2 or a fraction

Rate

  • Its a ratio that compares quantities measured in different units.

Proportion

  • The equality of two ratios, written as an equation.
  • also known as part to whole comparison.

Task 2

1.)5 hours to travel 360 miles is about ___72__mph

2.)As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

Task 3

What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32

Task 4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ss3fp51ghMo

Task 5

Does this seem fair?

No

With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?

No, because the homeless guys just stole $100 while the Ex- Mortgage dude has $3b.

The Ex-mortgage should be in prison for 15 years than the homeless guy

What would you have done if you were the judge?

The homeless guy will be in the community center helping there for a year or 2.

I would also thank him for honest. And for the Ex-mortgage dude, I will sentence him in prison for 20 years.

a ratio is a relationship between two numbers of the same kind
A value describing one quantity in terms of another quantity.
A proportion is an equation with a ratio on each side.
1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about _____mph
  1. As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

Rate- Compares two quantities measured in different units

Proportion-Equation that states that two ratio's are equal

Ratio- A relation beetween two amounts

5 hours to travel 360 miles is 72 mph
As a playground worker, If I increase the amount of apple juice
I am serving the play group from 25ml to 100 how much should
I increase the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same
proportion?
Increase it by 3

Does this seem fair?

No because the homeless guy stole 100$
He confesed the next day and felt bad.
If I were the judge I would let him of
because he felt bad and didnt hurt anyone

Definitions

Ratio- The quantitative relation between two amounts showing the number of times one value contains or is contained within the other.
Examples: 2:4 , 3:4 , 8:12.

Example of a ratio question. -Made by me~! (Paint)

Rate- A similarity of two parts measured in different totals. It can also be expressed as fraction, but cannot be expressed as percent.
Examples: 18.2/kg

Unite Rate question. (Question originally came from the HW booklet, but I just change the number)

Proportion- A part, share, or number considered in comparative relation to a whole.

1. Does this seems fair? No
2. With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seems just fair? Why have you made this choice?

No, I don't think this is fair because ...

I think?

3. What would you have done if you were the judge.
If it cost Paul to stay in jail in 3 years in order to pay 80b, I would sent Roy in jail that's for sure less than 3 years.

Patricia's Proportion Post

Task 1

Please define

ratio - A comparison of quantities in the same units.

Example:

Ratio Notation: 3:9 , Fraction: 3/9

rate - A comparison of two quantities measured in different units.

Example:

$ 1.69/100 grams.

proportion - An equation which states that 2 ratios (fractions) are equal.

Example:

2/6 = 4/12

Task 2

Copy these questions into your post. Answer them using proportion statements.
  1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph

  2. As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.
Task 3

What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32

3/4 = 12/16 True
4/9 = 16/32 False

Task 4

Find a video about using proportion and embed it in your post. Make sure you select the small size of the video.

Here is a proportion video to help you.

Task 5

We are starting to engage in discussions about social justice. What do you think about this image below. Use the link to copy it into your post. Then answer the questions

  1. Does this seem fair?
It does not seem fair because the homeless guy only stole $100 and the other guy stole 3 billion.

2. With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?

I think its not fair because the rich guy stole 3 billion while the homeless guy has to spent time in jail for 15 years.

3. What would you have done if you were the judge?

If I were the judge I will give the homeless guy 1 year or maybe less.

Jayjay's Proportion Post

Ratio: The relation between two amounts
Rate:Rate is a ratio that compares two quantities of different units.
Proportion:A proportion is an equation stating that two ratios are equivalent.

  • 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph

  • As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

  • 3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32
    1) diagonally is the first way. multiply the top left to the bottom right and the top right to the bottom left.
    2) you can do it vertically.divide the numerator to the denominator for each ratios.
    3) you can do it vertically. you divide top and bottom from left to right

  • Does this seem fair?
  • No because the homeless guy felt bad and turned himself in which was good and 15 years is too much.
  • With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?
  • No. Because The homeless guy has less money and more years but the rich guy has more money but less years.
  • What would you have done if you were the judge?
  • I would let him off the hook because he didnt do something Really bad.

    --------------------------
    1) Ratio-
Ratio is a relationship between two numbers that are the same.

    2) Rate- Rate is a ratio that compares two amounts of different units.

    3) Proportion-A proportion is an equation with a ratio on each side.

    --------------------------
    3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32
    3/4=12/16 is true because 3 times 16 is 48 and 4 times 16 is 48.

    --------------------------

Does this seem fair? No because this homeless dude only stole $100 and turned himself in and has to stay in prison for 15 years. The rich guy stole 30 million dollars and has to stay in prison for ONLY 1 year, or something like that.

1.No because the rich dude took 3 billion away from other people and he only went to jail for 1 year. And the old guy took $100 from a bank and turned himself in.And he went to jail for 15 years.
2.The poor guy is going in jail for 15 years to pay $0.15 per year and the rich guy is in jail for only 1 year and he stole more money.
    3. If I were the judge I would've made the old guy go to jail for 1 year and made the rich guy go to jail for how much money he stole.

    Sompong's Proportion Post

    Task 1

    Please Define

    • Ratio- When you compare quantities that have the same units.

    • Rate- When you compare two quantities that are measured in different units.
    $1.69 per 100g or $1.69/100g
    • Proportion- An equation which states that two ratios are equal.

    Task 2

    1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph.

    2. As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am
serving at the playgroup from 25ml to 100ml, how much should I increase
the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion?
The orange juice is 50ml to start with.

    Task 3

What are three ways to prove that equivalent ratios are true?

    3/4 = 12/16 -TRUE

    4/9 = 16/32 - FALSE

    Task 4

    Task 5

    1. Does this seem fair? No, this does not seem fair.

    2. With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?
This does not seem fair, because the rich guy stole 3 billion dollars but only got sent to jail for 40 months (3 years). The homeless man only stole 100 dollars, was honest and confronted to the police and got sent to jail for 15 years. He stole less money, was honest, but still got sent to jail for longer.

    3. What would you have done if you were the judge?
If I was the judge, I would send the homeless man to jail for only 5 months or so, because he stole the money for a reasonable reason, and also because he was honest enough to confront
    himself.

    1. Does this seem fair? No, because the homeless man only stole $100 and he turned himself in the next day and has 15 years in jail but the billionaire dude only has 40 months but he stole 3 billion dollars.
    2. It isn't fair because the rich dude should spend more time in jail because he stole alot of mula but the homeless guy only stole 100 bucks and he's got 15 years.
    3. I would put the rich dude in jail for how much money he stole and I would only put the homeless guy in jail for only a year or so because he only stole 100 dollars and he turned himself in.

I think it's not fair because the rich guy stole $3 billion and he just need to spend a 3 years. While, the homeless guy will spent time in jail for 15 years even though he just stole $100 and he turned himself in.

3.What would you have done if you were the judge?

If I were the judge, I will give the homeless man 1 year in the prison or give him community work every day for 2 months.
