Karl's Proportion Post

Task 1

Please define
ratio
- A ratio shows the relative sizes of two or more values.

eg. Express the ratio of red balls to the black balls. answer 3:4

rate - Compares two quantities measured in different units.

eg.10 km in 5 gallons

proportion
-An equation which states that two ratios (fractions) are equal.

eg. Johnny drove 10km in 2hrs how far would he get in 1 hr.

Task 2

1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph

360 divided by 5 equals 72.

2. As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with. You have to increase the orange juice 4 ml.

Task 3

What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32

the 4/9 = 16/32 is not an equivalent fraction.

Task 4

Find a video about using proportion and embed it in your post.

Task 5

1. Does this seem fair? No

2.With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?

No I don't think it's fair because the homeless man only stole 100 and he went to jail for 15 years but this rich guy stole 3 billion dollars and he's only going to jail for 3 years it should be the other way around.

3.What would you have done if you were the judge? If I ws the judge I would send the rich guy to jail for 15 years and maybe the homeless guy put him in jail for a year then after send him to place where they can feed him and cloth him and other thing.
