Michael's Propotion Post

Ratio- The relation between two similar numbers (1:2)
Rate- A comparison of two quantities measured in different units. $1.69 per 100 grams or $1.69/100 g is a rate for purchasing bulk food. 72 beats per minute or 72 beats/min is a heart rate.
Proportion- An equation which states that two ratios (fractions) are equal.

Task 2
1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph

2. As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with. You can just x2

Task 3
What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32 Three ways you can prove it is equivalent is cross multiply , horizontal, vertical, and diagonal.
4/9 = 16/32 is FALSE because what you do to the top and the bottom the answer is different.

Task 4

Task 5

1.Does this seem fair? This does not seem fair because the homeless guy only stole $100 and was sent to jail for 15 years. The rich guy stole 3million dollars and he got sent to jail for 40 months. The rich guy stole more but went to jail for less time then the homeless guy. This is not even close to being fair.

2.With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above.Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice? It does not seem fair because the rich guy stole more money but went to jail for less time then the homeless guy. I've mad this choice because the judge is dumb for putting someone to jail that stole $100 and get put in jail for 15 years.

3. What would you have done if you were the judge? If i was the judge i would of put the rich guy in jail for 30 years and the homeless guy for 10 months.
