Suzzene's Proportion Post

Task 1:

Please define-

Ratio- The comparison of two numbers.
Example: 1:4

Rate- A comparison of two quantities measured in different units.
Example: $0.85/orange

Proportion- An equation which states that two ratios are equal.
Example: 1/2= 5/10

Task 2:

1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about _____ mph

x= 72/mph

2. As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

x= 200 ml

Task 3:
What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or
4/9 = 16/32

Task 4:

Task 5:
1.Does this seem fair?
No.

2.With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?
It is not fair at all because a rich person who scammed 3 billion dollars out of people only need to serve in jail for 3.5 years while a guy who desperately needed money for food and such stole only $100 and yet, needs to serve for 15 years.

4.What would you have done if you were the judge?
I would've given the homeless man food and maybe around 3 months of community service and 15 years for the man who had scammed people out of 3 billion dollars.
