Ace's We Day Post

Today, 30 very lucky students had been chosen to go to today's We Day Concert. I am very lucky that I was one of those 30. Today was absolutely AMAZING. This morning we had all bussed to the MTS centre, And the bus driver was kind enough too let all of us on.

At the MTS centre, we all went to our seat section. (214) It was really crowded! There were A LOT of children at the concert from all around Manitoba. Right from the beginning of the concert everyone was pumped up!

We started off the concert by doing the We Day Dance. It was really fun seeing thousands of people all dancing together at the same time! It was like we were all together as one 'yenno? And I think that "being together or working together as one'', was 1 of the many messages that were being presented to us.

There were a lot of inspirational speakers that spoke to us today, they all had inspired me but the ones that did the most were: Al Gore, Rick Hansen, Spencer West, Michel Chikwanine and of course.. Marc and Craig Kielburger, the brothers who had started all of this.

These speakers showed me that,
no matter how young you are,
what color your skin is,
if you have disabilities,
what size you are, or anything else.

If you do not let anyone put you down, never give up, work hard,
and do whats right, You CAN achieve anything!
I've taken the vow, will you?

On November 3oth I and thousands of others will be participating in the "Vow of Silence" where we will not speak at all for 24 hours. The silence resembles the children who did not get a chance to speak for their own rights. They were forced to become soldiers, slaves and were denied an education.

I will never ever forget this amazing event that I was lucky enough to attend. I hope that I will be going to another We Day Concert in the future. It was a really great and fun experience!

Thank you Mr. Harbeck, Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Wilson, Mr. Potter and all the other wonderful Sargent Park staff that made today happen! :)

Ace's Pay it Forward

What is "Pay It Forward"?
I think that pay it forward is a routine that 1 person has started and it keeps on getting passed on from 1 person to another. Pay It Forward, is when YOU help someone out or do a good deed not because someone told you to, but because you want to. Then they Pay It Forward then it just keeps on growing.

What was your Pay It Forward act of kindness?
Since our group was quite large, we chose to do a few things. One of our acts of kindness was donating. We also helped out some of the people we know. We babysat foster children and lastly we raked a backyard for free.

Why did you choose this activity?
We chose theses activities because we wanted to help out people who are less fortunate than us and just to make people smile (: .

Who did you help?
When we donated, we probably helped out children and other families who are in need of help. We helped Elijah's grandma get some rest from taking care of the 4 foster children. Lastly we helped out eli's auntie and uncle.

What did you do?
Our group had donated canned goods, clothing, toys, and books to Winnipeg Harvest and Value Village. Another thing we did is that we babysat Elijah's grandma's foster children for about an hour. The kids that we took care of are named Rihanna, Breayon, Monique, and Sterling. The last thing we did was that we raked elijah's auntie and uncles backyard for free.

When did you do you act of kindness?
We did our act of kindness on Sunday, November 13 2011.

How did your act of kindness go?
Our act of kindness turned out to be great. We managed to put smiles upon peoples faces.

What Happened?
On Sunday, November 13 Eli, Joseph, Mikey, Adrian, Terence, Hendrix and I, decided to help out and pay it forward. The 7 of us gathered a bunch of clothes, food, and toys to donate. First, we tried Winnipeg Harvest, but it was closed. So we went to Value Village and we donated the clothing and toys. The man who was at the door to take in the donations was surprised and happy. We passed on the message to Pay It Forward and he agreed. After, we went to another Winnipeg Harvest to donate the canned goods that we gathered. After wards, we went to eli's grandma's house to baby sit her 4 foster children named, Rihanna, Breayon, Monique and Sterling. We read to them, watched television with them, and also play board games with them. Eli's grandma was very happy. Lastly, we went to another relative of eli's and we raked their backyard for them, it started snowing a lot so it was fun. They were also very happy and proud.

How did you feel?

I felt very proud of us because we passed on the pay it forward message and that we went out and spent our time helping others.

How did the person or people react?
They were really surprised and happy that us teenagers were doing these kinds of things to help others.

Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"?
Yes, we did ask 1 very young 'pogi' Filipino gentleman to pay it forward and he kindly agreed.

How did they react to your request?
To me, it seemed like he thought ''Sure why not?''

Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important?
Pay It Forward is important because the world goes 'round because of us, so if 1 person chooses to make a difference and pass on the message. More and more people would be involved in Pay It Forward and everyone would be helping each other.

Has your act of kindness made a difference?
Yes, i do believe that our act of kindness had made a difference. Even though it may be a small deed, it still helps others. Just as simple as cleaning up the community with a couple of friends. If all of us participate and are committed, We CAN make a Difference.
NOW PRESENTING.... OUR PAY IT FORWARD VIDEO!

Graphing Post

1. Use your notes to list the different types of graphs. Please list the advantages and disadvantages of each graph.

Bar Graph
A - Shows which category got most or least.
D - Intervals may make bars seem very close, even though its not.
Double Bar Graph
A - Shows which set of data is better.
D -
Circle Graph
A - You can easily see which category is the best or worst.
D - You have to calculate the actual number.
Line Graph
A - You know whether the category is increasing or decreasing.
D - can only be used for data that changes over a period of time.
Pictograph
A - You can see which category got highest or lowest.
D - You have to calculate the actual number. Also symbols might might be different sizes.

2. How can graphs be misleading. Show 3 ways.

A pictograph can be misleading if the symbols are larger than others but they each represent the same amount.

A bar graph can be misleading if the intervals are close together and the bars don't show that much range.

A Line graph can be misleading because also if the intervals are close together. You wont notice if there is much increasing or decreasing.

2a) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately?

A bar graph and a line graph.

2b) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.

e.x. A line graph would show that my sale of pizza subs is increasing every week. So, yes i would continue to keep selling pizza subs.

4. Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?

I would choose the line graph because it clearly shows that more and more healthy choices are being bought every month.

4a) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.

Ace's Proportion Post

Ratio: A ratio is a relation in numbers between two similar things. e.g. 4:5
Rate: A rate is a comparison of two quantities measured in different units. e.g. 2 hotdogs/$ 3.00
Proportion: A proportion is an equation which states that 2 ratios are equal.
^^PROPORTION^^

1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph.

2.
As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with. Answer: You should increase the orange juice by 50 ml more. (x2)

What are three ways to show that equivalent ratios statements are true?

1. Does this seem fair? No, this is not fair. The homeless man turned himself in after stealing the $100. Only 100 and he turned himself in. But he gets sent to 15 years in prison. on the other hand, a wealthy man tries to steal 3 BILLION dollars. He gets caught and gets sent ONLY to three years in prison.
2.

3. If i were the judge, I would have just sentenced the homeless man to do community service or even just give him a warning. As for the other man, i would have sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
