Jada's Pay It Forward

Part 1
What is Pay It Forward?
Pay it forward is a plan where if you help one person they'll help another 3 people and then they will help another 3 people then it will go on.

Part 2
My pay it forward act of kindness was going around raking yards with my younger sister.

I chose this activity because my sister wanted to help so I did the easiest thing for her to help with but also because there are a lot of trees in my neighborhood and since the weather is getting colder people will most likely put off raking their yard for another day or 2.

I helped rake up my own yard which is something that I don't do usually and a neighbor named Jesse, who had just recently suffered a concussion.

I raked my and her yard and also helped her move somethings into her garage.

I did my act of kindness on November 13th, 2011.

Part 3
My act of kindness went very smoothly except for the weather, it was very cold.

Nothing much happened but Jesse did give us a snack when we were done.

I felt very happy with myself because I got to help someone who has an injury.

Will Jesse was very pleased with the action, but my mom was surprised when she saw me raking the yard.

I didn't ask Jesse to pay it forward because I forgot do to being happy with myself.
I did ask my mom to pay it forward. She said that she will try.

Part 4

The idea of pay it forward is important because if we can get everyone to pay it forward there will be people who become more fortunate do to the action and plus it makes you have a good feeling inside knowing that you helped make a difference.

Will I know for a fact that my action made a difference to my mom because my mom wouldn't bother to go out there and rake other peoples yards but she said she'll make a difference in her own way.

Jada's Graphing Post

There are 4 different types of graphs

The 1st is the bar graph.
It's best for comparing data across categories.

A disadvantage is that it can only be used with discrete data.

The 2nd is the double bar graph.
It's best for comparing 2 sets of data across categories.

A disadvantage is that you need 2 sets of data to use a double bar graph.

The 3rd is the circle graph.
It's best for comparing categories to the whole using percents.

A disadvantage is that to use a circle graph takes to long to make because you have to turn all the data into percents.

The last graph is the line graph.
It's best for showing changes in data over time and the trends.

A disadvantage is that the points on the line aren't in the exact place.

This picture is of a double line graph.

There are 4 different ways a graph could be misleading.

1) The color of of one of the bars could be different from the others.

2) One of the bars could be wider than the others.

3) One of the bars could turned into 3d.

4) There could be a break in the y-axis.

2a) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately?

The 2 graphs that would show this information accurately would have to be the line graph and bar graph.

2b) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.

Yes I would continue to sell Pizza Subs, because as the weeks go by more people want to buy Pizza Subs.

Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?

I would use the line graph because it's best for showing changes in data overtime.

4a) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.

Jada's Proprtion post

Proportion - an equation which states that 2 ratios are or fractions are equal.

Rate
- A rate has 2 units. It also compares 2 quantities measured in different units.
Ex: $1.69 per 100g, $1.69/100g

Ratio
- a ratio shows the quantitative relation between 2 amounts showing the numbers of times one value contain
s or is contained within another.

1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph

2. As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from
25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

What are the three ways I could prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32

1. Does this seem fair?

This doesn't seem fair to me because there you have some guy who did a 3 billion dollar fraud getting only 40 months and you have a homeless guy who stole a $100 dollar bill, returning it to to the police the next day getting 15 years.

2. With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?

No it doesn't seem fair because the person dealing with the larger amount of money should get more years than the homeless man.

3. What would you have done if you were the judge?

If I was the judge I would give the homeless man the $1oo because he did the right thing by giving the money back and help pay the money to stay at the detox center or just give him community service.
