Diana's Surface Area and Volume Post

Rectangular Prism

l x w, l x w, l x w
t 5 x 10 = 50m2 f 10 x 6 = 60m2 s 5 x 6 = 30m2

TSA= 2( T+ F + S)
TSA= 2( 50m2 + 60 m2 + 30 m2 )
TSA= 2 (140m2)
TSA= 280m2

Triangular Prism

135cm2 + 36cm2 + 36cm2 =207cm2
l x w
27 x 5= 135cm2 (b x h) ÷ 2 TSA=207cm2
(8 x 9) ÷ 2
72
÷ 2= 36cm2

Cylinder

2(π r2) + πdh r = d ÷ 2
r = 8
÷ 2
r = 4 mm
2 (3.14 x 4 x 4) + 3.14 x 8 x 12
2 (50.24) + 301.44
100.48 + 301.44
TSA= 401.92mm2

v= (b x h ÷ 2) x h
v= ( 3 x 5
÷ 2) x 8.5
v= (15
÷ 2) x 8.5
v=7.5 m2 x 8.5
v= 63.75m3

v=(l x w) x h
v=( 20 x 8) x 16
v= 160cm2 x 16
v=2560cm3

v=(b x h ÷ 2) x h
v=(4 x 8 ÷ 2) x 6.5
v=(32 ÷ 2) x 6.5
v= 16 x 6. 5
v= 104cm3
3/4 = 0.375
0.375 x 104= 39cm3

v=(π r2) x h
v=(3.14 x 6 x 6) x 15
v=113.04cm2 x 15
v= 1695.6cm3

Diana's Pythagorean Relationship

1. Answer in a short paragraph and with diagrams

For this first question, I'm going to be writing about Pythagorean Relationship and show a diagram. A Pythagorean relationship can be used to determine whether a triangle is a right triangle or not. The "a²" and "b²" are called the "legs". The "c" stands for " hypotenuse". To find the side length "a" you use a²= c² - b²; for b, you use b²= c² - a² and for "c" you use c²= a² + b². These are some facts that I know about Pythagorean Relationship.

2. Solve for the missing side length.

3. Is this a right triangle? Prove it!!!

Diana's Square Root Post

15. Order the following numbers from least to greatest.
17. Caramel wants to mount an 18cm x 18 cm square picture on a square board that is four times the area of a picture.
a) What is the area of the picture?
18cm x 18cm = 324cm2
b) What is the area of the board?
324 x 4= 1296cm2
c) What are the dimensions of the board?

12. While shopping online, Ji Hun finds a square rug with an area of 11m2 . He needs to know if it will fit in his 4m x 5m bedroom.
a) Estimate the side length of the rug, to one decimal place.

b) Check your estimate with a calculator.
√11= 3.3m
c) Will the rug fit? Explain.
Yes, it will fit because the side length of the rug is smaller, even than the shorter side of the bedroom.

Diana's Pay it Forward

"Pay It Forward" is doing act of kindness to at least three people who would in turn pass it on to other people. I did my part by volunteering at church yesterday, November 11, 2011. I made props for Christmas concert of St. Edward's Church. I actually made paper chains that will be used as props. I chose this activity because I want to be a part of a project that is worthwhile and worth remembering.
.

My act of kindness was great and fun since I met a lot of new people. All of us who volunteered enjoyed doing the props. We likewise enjoyed eating pizza together during the break. They felt glad that I volunteered to give them an extra hand. I did not ask the organizer of the project to "Pay it Forward" since I'm aware that she has been doing this quite sometime already and is active on church activities. The idea of "Pay It Forward" is important because you get to do act of kindness to other people and they in turn pass it on to other people too which would somehow make this world a better place to live. I know that my act made a difference since it made somebody else's project easier to accomplish.

Diana's Graphing Post

Graphing Post

1. Use your notes to list the different types of graphs. Please list the advantages and disadvantages of
each graph.

Circle Graph
Advantage:excellent visual concept of a whole or easy to label and has lots of space
Disadvantage:Difficult to understand without label.
Line Graph
Advantage: revels trends and relationship between data
Disadvantage: multiple lines on the graph, especially unrelated can be confusing
Double Bar Graph
Advantage: can be compared by 2 sets of data across categories
Disadvantage: can be a little bit confusing than the bar graph
Pictograph
Advantage: readily see the numbers for each categories by using simple multiplication
Disadvantage: doesn't give the exact number
Bar Graph
Advantage: simple to read and understand
Disadvantage: it's hard to see the exact number

2. How can graphs be misleading. Show 3 ways.
  • breaking in the y- axis
  • making a bar 3D
  • maybe they forgot to put labels or titles

2a) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 gra
phs would show the information accurately?
The 2 graphs that I would think that it will show the information are bar graph and line graph.
2b) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.
If I were to sell Pizza Subs I would still continue selling it. My graph explains my answer because on line graph it shows the data over time and in bar graph, it shows and compares the data for each categories
4. Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?
If I had to convince Mrs. Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices I will choose the bar graph because it's easy to read, understand, gives details, and compare the data across categories.

4a) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.

Diana's Proportion post

Task 1
-ratio: A comparison of quantities in the same units
Example: Words-three compared to nine 0r 3 to 9
Ratio Notation- 3:9
fraction- 3/9
-rate: a comparison of 2 quantities measured in different units
Example:

-proportion- shows an equation which states that 2 ratios (fractions) are equal
Example:

Task 2
  1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph
  2. As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with. I increase the orange juice to keep the quantities in the same proportion by multiplying it by 4 or 50 x 4 =200 total quantities of orange juice.
Task 3
What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32

Task 4
Find a video about using proportion and embed it in your post. Make sure you select the small size of the video.

Task 5
We are starting to engage in discussions about social justice. What do you think about this image below. Use the link to copy it into your post. Then answer the questions

  1. Does this seem fair? no it's not fair
  2. With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?Applying ratio and proportion and using the basis by which the rich man was imprisoned, the homeless man would stay only about 3.456 seconds in prison.
  3. What would you have done if you were the judge? If I were the judge I will just punish the homeless guy by requiring him to render (make; to do) community service.
