Terence's Pythagoras Scribe Edit

1. Answer a short paragraph with diagrams.

Explain the Pythagorean Relationship.

The two legs which are A and B equal the hypotenuse which is C. The C may also equal A or B if you subtract. If you subtract C with A it may equal the B and

the same thing goes for C-B. If you do A+B=C, B=A-C, and A=B-C it will show if you have a right triangle and those are the formulas.

2. Solve the missing side length

A=12 cm
B=5 cm

A+B=C
(12x12)+(5x5)=
144+25=169
C=169cm2
C=13

3. Is this a right triangle? Prove it!!!

A=8 cm
B=6 cm
C=11 cm

A+B=C
(8x8)+(6x6)=(11x11)
64+36=(100) 121

It is not a right triangle because 64+36=100 not 121.

Terence's Textbook Questions 17, 10, 6

17.Carmel wants to mount an 18 cm x 18 cm square picture on a square board that is four times the area of the picture.

A) What is the area of the pitcher?
18x18=324cm
B) What is the area of the board?
324x4=1296cm
C) What are the dimensions of the board?
1296=36

10. Kai uses an entire can of paint on a square backdrop for the school play. The label on can states that one can cover 27m squared of wall surface. Estimate the backdrop's side length to one decimal place.
(5.1) 27=5.1

6. What is an example of a whole number that has a square root between 9 and 10.
100

Terence's Textbook Questions 6,7, and 4

Question 6
A store discounted items by 50% off the original price one week. The following week an additional 10% was taken off the already reduced price. The regular price of a CD player was $85.00. What is the reduced price in the second week?

50% off $85.00 85.00 Divided By 2=42.5
42.50 Divided By 10=4.25
42.50-4.25=38.25

Question 7
There's 100 Caribou, 1 day the herd increases by 10% and another day the herd increases by 10% again what is the, herd number?

100+10=120
120+10=130
I added 10 by 100 which =120 and I did it again which =130

Question 4
Chris purchased the following items:
• 2 binders at $4.99 each
• 1 math set for $3.99
• 1 backpack for $19.99

Find the total cost including 5% GST and 7% PST.

4.99x2=9.98
9.98+3.99=13.97
13.97+19.99=33.96
0.12x33.96=4.08
4.08+33.96=38.04

For my Pay It Forward Joey, Eli, Mikey, Ace, Adrian, Hendrix, and me did 4 things like donating clothes, food, rake Eli's back yard relatives place, and babysit his grandma's foster kids. The first thing we did was donate clothes to Value Village that we don't wear anymore and we also told the guy at Value Village to pay it forward. After we went Costco to donate food like baby food and pasta at the drop off bin. Later we went to Eli's grandma's house to babysit his grandma's foster kids for a while which was fun and after that we went to his relative's house to rake their backyard. After all that we went to Chicken Delight to kind of celebrate our accomplishments that we did that day.

Here is our Pay It Forward video made by Adrian

Terence's Graphing Post

Bar Graph- Advantages of using a Bar Graph is that it is best for comparing data across categories and a disadvantage is that it uses separate data.

Double Bar Graph- A advantage is that it can be used to compare 2 sets of data and a disadvantage is that the numbers is not always exact.

Line Graph- An advantage is that it compares data over time. A disadvantage is that it's not always the exact number.

Pictograph- An advantage for a pictograph is that it's easier to see which set of data is bigger and a disadvantage is that it's harder to count the exact number.
2. 3 ways a graph can be misleading is a break in the y-axis, make 1 bar wider than the others, and color 1 bar different than all the others.
3A) A line graph and a bar graph.
3B) If i was selling pizza subs I would continue because the line graph shows how much more I am selling.

4. I would use the pictograph because it's best for comparing data that can be easy to count.

Terence's Proportion Post

Ratio- Relation between 2 similar magnitudes (5:20)
Rate- Amount of charge or payment (5hours/day)
Proportion- Relations between size, quantities, and numbers

1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph.

2.As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

3. What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32 You can cross multiply. 3/4=12/16 is true because 3 times 16 is 48 and 4 times 16 is 48.
