Anita's Proportion Post

Task 1

Please Define:

Ratio- shows the relative sizes of two or more values.
example; 1:2, 2:4, 3:6

Rate- compares two quantities measured in different units.

example; $1.69 per 100g or $1.69/100g.

Proportion- an equation which states that two ratios or fractions are equal.
example;

Task 2:

Copy these questions into your post. Answer them using proportion statements.

5 hours to travel 360 miles is about ____ mph.

You would travel 72 miles per hour.

As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml how much should I the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

You need to increase the amount of juice by or multiplying it by 4.

Task 3:

What are three ways to prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32

3/4 = 12/16 is correct.

4/9 = 16/32 is false.

Task 4:

The video won't upload, so here's the link.

Task 5:

1) Does this seem fair? No, it is not fair.

2) With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?

No, it does not seem fair.

3) What would you have done if you were the judge? If I were the judge, i would have given Paul R. Allen 15 years in prison, and Roy Brown 2 months in prison.

Good job Anita! The definitions were easy to understand. Your pictures were big enough to see. You answered every question right. For task 3, I liked how you showed all of the three ways on how to prove that some equivalent ratio statements are true. I also agreed with your opinion about
sending Paul in prison for 15 years. I think your post would've been better if you change the font size on important keywords and change the font color. I also think that this link can be very helpful to you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YY_rj5CW5CU&feature=related

Well done!
