Kamille's Proportion post


Definitions

Ratio- The quantitative relation between two amounts showing the number of times one value contains or is contained within the other.
Examples: 2:4 , 3:4 , 8:12.

Rate- A similarity of two parts measured in different totals. It can also be expressed as fraction, but cannot be expressed as percent.
Examples: 18.2/kg

Unite Rate question. (Question originally came from the HW booklet, but I just change the number)

 Proportion- A part, share, or number considered in comparative relation to a whole.

 1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph

 2.  As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

3. What would you have done if you were the judge.
    If it cost Paul to stay in jail in 3 years in order to pay 80b, I would sent Roy in jail that's for sure less than 3 years.
