Steven's scribe post for january 9th, 2012

today in class we learned how to find the area of squares and rectangles only that because i think Kim covered what there is to know about prime numbers (Truly sorry i couldn't import pics my camera is broken and paint doesn't work on my computer)

Rectangle:

length (L) multiplied by width (W) is equal to the area

L x W = area

Examples:

5 x 3 = 15 square tiles

8 x 2 = 16 square tiles

9 x 1 = 9 square tiles

4 x 3 = 12 square tiles

9 x 4 = 36 square tiles

5 x 3 = 15 square tiles

----------------iii------------------
Rectangle iii Square ------

4 sides ----iii 4 equal sides
2 sets of --iii------------------

----
L x W = area

l l l l l l l l l l l l l l
l---------- L ------------l
l--------------------------l
l W------------------W l
l--------------------------l
l--------- L -------------l
l l l l l l l l l l l l l l

Square:

Side (S) multiplied by Side (S) is equal to the area

S x S = area of a square

Examples: ( 2 means squared in the brackets)

1 x 1 = 1 square tile or (1 2)

2 x 2 = 4 square tile or ( 2 2)

3 x 3 = 9 square tile or (3 2)

4 x 4 = 16 square tile or (4 2)

5 x 5 = 25 square tile or (5 2)

6 x 6 = 36 square tile or (6 2)

7 x 7 = 49 square tile or (7 2)

8 x 8 = 64 square tile or (8 2)

9 x 9 = 81 square tile or (9 2)

10 x 10 = 100 square tile or (10 2)

This is how to find the area of a Rectangle:

Good job Steven!! I like how you explained everything !! I also like that you mentioned the homework for today because I was in Backé. I really like how you made the words different colors and the video! I don't get the dotted lines after the examples..
Over all good job!!

Great job Steven. You did a really good job on your pictures and your use of colors was great because they aren't too bright. Thanks for posting the videos and our homework.

Hey Steve! Great job by the way. I truly love your post. All though you tried putting on pictures you still made dotted lines that looks like a square that creates a visual. All that we did on class you mentioned, this would help all of our classmate to understand more about a square. And also you could have tried another title for your topic like "Squares and square roots, or something with squares". I also liked the video, it truly did helped me.
