Jay Jay's Graphing Post

1
Bar Graph Advantage: It compares data across categories.
Disadvantage: It can only be read with discrete data.
Double Bar Graph Advantage - Compares two sets of data.
Disadvantage -
Pictograph - Advantage: They are easy to read and are visually appealing
Disadvantage: Best for only 2-6 categories and very simple.
Circle Graph - Advantage - Visually appealing and shows percent total for all categories.
disadvantage - Best for only 3-7 categories and only used with discrete data.
Line Graph Advantage - Shows data over time
Disadvantage - can only be used if the data changes

2.Graphs can be misleading by..:

Break in the y-axis

one bar has a different colour

one bar is wider than the other

2.a. Line Graph and Bar Graph.
2.B.Yes because the amount sold each week is getting higher.

4

4.a. I would show the left graph (line graph) because it shows the amounts getting higher over time.

Bar graph
advantage of a bar graph is that it is best to use for comparing data across categories.
Disadvantage - it is used to seperate data.

Double bar graph
advantage- it is used to compare two sets a data
disadvantage-it doesn't show the true value

Circle Graph
advantage- its best for showing percents
disadvantage- you have to calculate to show the true value

Line graph
advantage- you can tell wheather a set of data is increasing or decreasing over time
disadvantage- can only be used to compare data over time

Pictograph

advantage- you can see which piece of data is higher or lower
disadvantage- you have to calculate to get the true value

2. How can graphs be misleading? show 3 ways

You can mislead a pictograph if you make one piece of data larger than the others.

You can mislead a bar graph by breaking the y-axis so the intevals will be more closer together.

You can also mislead a bar graph by making one bar larger.

2. a) A line graph or a bar graph would be best for comparing this set of data.
b)I would continue selling pizza subs because every week the sales are going up.

4. a) I would choose a line graph because it shows the data more accurately.

Aicelle's Graphing Post

There are 5 different graphs that can be represented.
Graphs: Bar Graphs, Line Graphs, Double Bar Graphs, Circle Graphs, and Pictographs.

Bar Graphs

Advantage - Good for comparing across categories.
Disadvantage - You can only use it with several data.

Line Graphs

Advantage - Good for showing changes over time.
Disadvantage - You can only use it when it changes over time.

Double Bar Graphs

Advantage - Good for comparing 2 sets of data across categories.
Disadvantage - You might get mixed up.

Circle Graphs

Advantage - Good for comparing to the whole using percents.
Disadvantage - You will not know the exact number and it also takes long to do.

Pictographs

Advantage - Good for comparing data that can be counted easily.
Disadvantage - You will not know if it is a half or not.

3 ways you can misrepresent a graph.

Break in the y-axis.

Make one picture bigger than the other.

Colour one bar different from the others.

The 2 graphs that will show it more accurately are line graphs and a bar graph.

If I was selling Pizza Subs I will continue because a lot of people are buying every week.

I would choose a Line Graph because it shows that every month, a lot more people are choosing healthy food.

Graphing Post

1. Use your notes to list the different types of graphs. Please list the advantages and disadvantages of
each graph.

Circle Graph
Advantage:excellent visual concept of a whole or easy to label and has lots of space
Disadvantage:Difficult to understand without label.
Line Graph
Advantage: revels trends and relationship between data
Disadvantage: multiple lines on the graph, especially unrelated can be confusing
Double Bar Graph
Advantage: can be compared by 2 sets of data across categories
Disadvantage: can be a little bit confusing than the bar graph
Pictograph
Advantage: readily see the numbers for each categories by using simple multiplication
Disadvantage: doesn't give the exact number
Bar Graph
Advantage: simple to read and understand
Disadvantage: it's hard to see the exact number

2. How can graphs be misleading. Show 3 ways.
  • breaking in the y- axis
  • making a bar 3D
  • maybe they forgot to put labels or titles

2a) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 gra
phs would show the information accurately?
The 2 graphs that I would think that it will show the information are bar graph and line graph.
2b) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.
If I were to sell Pizza Subs I would still continue selling it. My graph explains my answer because on line graph it shows the data over time and in bar graph, it shows and compares the data for each categories
4. Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?
If I had to convince Mrs. Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices I will choose the bar graph because it's easy to read, understand, gives details, and compare the data across categories.

4a) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.

Jada's Graphing Post

There are 4 different types of graphs

The 1st is the bar graph.
It's best for comparing data across categories.

A disadvantage is that it can only be used with discrete data.

The 2nd is the double bar graph.
It's best for comparing 2 sets of data across categories.

A disadvantage is that you need 2 sets of data to use a double bar graph.

The 3rd is the circle graph.
It's best for comparing categories to the whole using percents.

A disadvantage is that to use a circle graph takes to long to make because you have to turn all the data into percents.

The last graph is the line graph.
It's best for showing changes in data over time and the trends.

A disadvantage is that the points on the line aren't in the exact place.

This picture is of a double line graph.

There are 4 different ways a graph could be misleading.

1) The color of of one of the bars could be different from the others.

2) One of the bars could be wider than the others.

3) One of the bars could turned into 3d.

4) There could be a break in the y-axis.

2a) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately?

The 2 graphs that would show this information accurately would have to be the line graph and bar graph.

2b) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.

Yes I would continue to sell Pizza Subs, because as the weeks go by more people want to buy Pizza Subs.

Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?

I would use the line graph because it's best for showing changes in data overtime.

4a) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.

Kristan's Pay It Forward Post

What i am going to do is help people who need stuff. To do this I'm going to donate some stuff that i don't need anymore. By doing this im not only recycling old unused stuff but also help other people in need of stuff. So I'm going to drop off some of my stuff at my grandparents house so they can in turn give it to other people that they know are needing some stuff. I am also going to go to value village to drop off other stuff cause i know that the donation that we drop there also help other charities like "United Way". I did this on November 5th on the weekend.

These are pictures of me donating stuff to both my Grandma and Value Village

What happened is I went to value village then I donated some of my stuff, how I feel is good then how the person reacted was normally and I did not ask the person to pay it forward because he probably didn't know what that means. I also went to my grandparents house to give them some of my stuff so they can give it to one of their friends that moved here from the Philippines, my grandparents was happy because I told them, I was doing this to help people who needs stuff
