Karl's Graphing Post

1. Use your notes to list the different types of graphs. Please list the advantages and disadvantages of each graph.

Bar Graph
Advantage-Bar graphs advantage is good for comparing data across categories.
Disadvantage- You cant rearrange the graph, show changes overtime.

Double Bar Graph
Advantage-Good for comparing 2 sets of data over categories and it's easy to tell what your comparing.
Disadvantage-When you use a double bar graph somethimes there to close together that you can't tell the comparison and difference of the bar.

Circle Graph
Advantage-Circle graphs are good for camparing part to whole using percents.
Disadvantage-If the numbers are big and it's hard to compare them to percents you can't use a circle graph specially when ure not good at comparing percents.

Line Graph
Advantage-Is good for showing changes in a data over a period of time.
Disadvantage-Can only be used if the data changes over time.

Pictograph
Advantage- Good for comparing data that can be easily counted and represented using symbols.
Disadvantage- You have to find out what the symbols are worth and it's sometimes hard to tell how much something is when the symbols is not a whole.

2. How can graphs be misleading. Show 3 way

A Pictograph can be misleading if one symbol is bigger than the other

A Bar Graph can be misleading if there was a break in the y-axis

Also a Bar Graph can be misleading if one bar is a different color.

2a) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately?
2b) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.

2a) 2 graphs that would show this information accurately is a line graph

and a bar graph.

2b) Yes, because each week the sales keep on gettign higher and a line graph would display this data accurately.

4. Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?

4a) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.

4.) I would show her the graph on the left because it's showing the changes over the months and that it's getting better not like the other graph it's hard to tell how much it is.
